“First I would thank you all for coming to this extremely important meeting.I am just going to cut to the chase, the elephants are dying and need our help.We must help them because we know if we needed help in an emergency that would do all that they can. Also we must think about the fact that they did not choose to come to our zoo, they were forced and this cannot be the way that they leave.Think about our image, how would we look if we starved our own elephants. The exact same elephants that had preformed to the best of their ability, no matter the audience.Did you guy’s see the look on their faces when someone would pass by.So I am here to say that we must find ways to sneak them

“World War Two in Europe was over” (274). This quote from Kurt Vonnegut’s Slaughterhouse-Five, is from last few pages of the book, which are particularly enlightening as to what Vonnegut’s opinion about war is, because of how he uses his experience from World War II. Using imagery and diction, Vonnegut shows that when explaining war, there is not much to say about it that’s intelligent and makes sense. Diction is used by the author in that his word choice shows why war is hard to describe. Vonnegut’s use of diction is evident in the last line of the book, “Poo-tee-weet?”(Vonnegut 275), because it’s something a bird said to Billy, the main character.…

Introduction: Schlosser defines the same criticisms that many Americans share about the fast food industry, while also agreeing that the food tastes good. He sympathizes with consumers, which places him as a member of the audience himself, then succumbs to the expectations and belief of his readers in order to establish his decorum. He begins the chapter by describing in vivid detail the act of actually purchasing fast food, which nearly every reader can relate to. Establishing that commonplace is the starting point for instituting Schlosser’s ethos, and encourages the audience to read on and absorb his other ideals.…

Henry David Thoreau uses transcendentalist thinking in “Wild Fruits” to change the viewpoint of someone who placed importance on material acquisitions and pleasures. In the lines 56-59, Thoreau states, “Commonly, the less you get the happier and richer you are…” By this, he means that often times people who have less are happier than people who have more. The people who have more has more to loose and the people who have less have less to loose.…

Every piece of writing has its own genre. The purpose, audience, topic, and other factors all contribute to which conventions the author will use in order to convey the genre or message. For example, if the author is trying to persuade his audience to believe in let’s say, his religion, he might use a personal experience that changed his life to explain why they should consider believing in his religion. In Jonathan Foer’s personal essay ‘Against Meat’, he uses personal anecdotes and a nostalgic and positive tone to reach his audience. While in Michael Pollan’s list/argument ‘Six Food Rules’, he uses facts, common sense, and tips to convey his message.…

Additionally, the article Hunger in American, one of my favorite reads, explores this concept. Authors of Hunger in America states that America's weak economic system contributes to rapid growth in the numbers of households seeking and receiving food assistance. As the gap inequality widen, the middle-working class population will continue to t disappear and the number of people participating in SNAP or needing meals will grow immensely (). Programs such as Empty Bowls are conversation starters. As a society, we should be resilient as we fight for or request policies and laws to actively addresses food insecurity and its depending social issues as such employment, homelessness etc...…

The American Dream The early twentieth century marked a significant time period in history of America and its well-known reputation as a nation of prosperity and great opportunities. During this time, a massive wave of immigrants from Eastern Europe arrived in the land of hope and richness seeking for jobs, and fulfilling their American dreams. However, reality of the “great” America hit them hard and crushed all their expectations of what the land of freedom could offer. As a result, immigrants fell down to the bottom of the “food chain” and could not escape the ruthless cycle of capitalism in the twentieth-century America.…

Why is it so easy to convince people just by using rhetoric language, or propaganda? In the novel Animal Farm by George Orwell, the animals rebelled against Mr. Jones, at first to create an equal society, but slowly the pigs started to gain power, using propaganda and rhetoric language, especially napoleon and squealer. They turned the perfect, equal society into an unequal society, almost coming back to the point when Mr. Jones was here, just with a different leader. The pigs become like humans, drinking alcohol, and change the commandments to “some animals are more equal than other”. I think that Squealer is a very important character in the novel, and that without him, Napoleon and the other pigs wouldn’t have gotten all those privileges.…

    d. Subjective meanings/ pg. 13: the meanings that people give their own behaviors Food and nutrition can be a major problem. The irony really kicked in while watching the video when I saw all these workers slaving in the fields, picking these crops, yet not getting the vegetables or right nutrition that they needed. When on break from working, we saw them snacking on chips and soda. We never saw them eating the crops they actually picked, which would not be good either considering all the pesticides on them.…

The time travel paradox or simply temporal paradox is a self contradictory argument in which time and space contradict each other and challenge destiny. A paradox is a self-contradicting idea that is logically unacceptable because there is no logic explanation to prove it. There are two types of temporal paradoxes: the causal loop and the grandfather paradox; each of them have the same basis, but have subtle differences. The movie “12 Monkeys” is built around a causal loop that enters in the subgenera of a self-fulfilling prophecy. This specific genre of the time travel paradox is based on the fact that an event in the future affect events of the past that will later on affect the future making an inconsistent logic of unexplainable relation of time and space.…
