Understanding the nutritional value of the foods you eat can be the difference in living a long healthy life and living a short sickly one. Everything you eat should be an asset to your body, not a liability. Who would have ever considered the fact that we make life and death decisions at the grocery store, well, that is exactly what we are doing every time we shop.
The foods that provided my daily intake of protein were chicken breast, waffles, pita bread, hummus, macaroni and cheese, black eyed peas, sausage, cornbread, and cinnamon rolls. My daily intake of carbohydrates were found in waffles, syrup, pita bread, hummus, cran-cherry juice, macaroni and cheese, black eyed peas, corn bread, fruit juice, and cinnamon rolls. As a result, there were no adjustments necessary. It was discovered that some of the proteins that I ate were complete proteins and some were incomplete proteins that had to be combined. The importance of this fact is, since proteins are part of every cell, tissue, and body fluid, they are considered building blocks. It takes 20 amino acids to make proteins. Complete proteins have all the necessary amino acids, while incomplete proteins take two or more combined. Based on the foods that I ate, my proteins, carbohydrates, and fat were all within the recommended range. My macronutrient intake was within the recommended range as well. These findings were encouraging because consistently consuming too much or too little of the wrong foods can result in poor nutrition. Even the natural foods you eat will be transformed into stomach filling waste that will increase sugar, fat, and salt
