Every day, wonderful aromas sweep through the passageways of the IFF Factory. Flavorists wearing their safety goggles while grasping the fragile flasks as they meticulously decide on which flavors should be linked with each other. There are numerous creations of various scents and flavors being generated at the factory daily. However, everything is not always what it seems In.Eric Schlosser’s, Food Product Design excerpt, much of the factories secrets are revealed. It explores the ways in which the manufacturer of flavors and fragrances are generated while providing previously unknown information for the readers. The author, Schlosser, uses figurative language in “Fast Product/Design”, to show readers the extreme measures flavorists do to keep confidentiality, how flavors/scents are produced, and the negative aspect of the flavor of fast food.

To begin, Schlosser makes use of similes to present to readers how private the flavorists are with classified information.When Schlosser reveals the ways in which the flavorists combat material from being leaked, he used similes to do so. From the process of mastering the scents and flavors to the harmful effects of fast food, the excerpt showed how the factory had some unbelievable secrets that would have never been guessed. Moreover, the figurative language Schlosser used takes the text to a new level due to the precise figurative language examples he uses.Throughout the text, he used a variety of different figurative language techniques to convey each fascinating new detail.
