Food Pantry Research Paper

have gone to the Boulevard food pantry many times with my mom because she volunteers there and I go and volunteer with her. The first time I went I remember feeling scared and thinking what if these people are intimidating to me or they are mean. It turns out I was completely wrong. The clients were very nice, and appreciative that we were taking time out of our schedules to help them. The clients are always so grateful for the people that are helping them. After I had volunteered I felt like I had taken a risk to do something that was out of my comfort zone then. After that experience I felt more open minded to the clients that came because they just wanted any help they could get to find food.

However, the probability of this occurring is unlikely to happen. I wasn’t sure what I expected when going to my community service for the first time. The place that I choose, the Lincoln Park Community Shelter, resided nearby the Lincoln Park, DePaul campus, so I just thought it would be an easy travel to and from the train station. Walking to the site, it was something that I’m not easily used to at home. Around there, there were clean and beautiful scenery all around. Every block I would walk pass a jogger or a person walking their dog in the peaceful environment.…

While there were no issues on the ride to the Food Pantry, there were some on the way back. People who were in the back began to throw various objects in the front, disrupting many people’s peaceful ride back to school; however, this is more or less expected from high schoolers. The place was real sobering in the fact that there are more starving people out there than you would imagine, and the food supplies are shorted than you’d imagine.
