Food Industry Over Obesity : Not Guity Essay

In the article “Don’t Blame the Eater,” David Zinczenco blames the fast food companies for causing the obesity epidemic. He told his own story as a kid growing up in the 80’s when fast food was the most popular choice and how it made him one of the “portly fast-food patron”. He then accuses such companies of failing to address warning label on high calories product which lead to the increase of number of diabetes patients from 5% to 30% of “all new childhood cases of diabetes in this country”. In addition, Zinczenco encourages the new spate of lawsuit against the food industry with the hope to give children and their “busy parents” an opportunity to have a better and healthier food choice.
Though I concede Zinzenco’s opinion in addressing the responsibility of the food industry, I still insist that the industry is not the only one who responsible for this “time bomb”. I believe the responsibility belongs to (i) parents, who play an important role in their children’s food orientation, (ii) school, for nutrition and exercise education and (iii) the people themselves for making their own food choice.
According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), childhood obesity has more than double in children and quadrupled in adolescents in the past 30 years.
