In most cases American food is either farmed, generated or shipped from overseas. Modern food production is cost effective but very harmful. The production of food is the reason food lacks its nutritional value. There are two types of produce farming; animal and plant. Animal farms have converted since the 1930’s. Huge multinational corporations have turned farm houses into assembly lines. Animals are now pumped with steroids and hormones to increase profit. “An estimated 80 percent of all US feedlot cattle are injected with hormones to make them grow faster” (Raloff). Hormones also aid in weight gain and milk production. Meaning animals get bigger faster and consume less food which in turn saves money. While changing the animals they are also changing humans. Hormones in meat are known to cause breast lumps in women which can turn cancerous, and abnormal growth rates in girls.in cohesion with animal farming, plant produce farming has changed dramatically over the years. The major change in plant farming is due to the soil. Our soil lacks the minerals it needs to grow healthy plants. Unhealthy plants leads to attacks by bugs which in then leads to pesticides being sprayed on the food. Many illnesses can be treated by simply eating right but eating right doesn’t make money. Big drug companies count on people eating unhealthy food because it generates their funds. It’s rare that a doctors tells you just to eat healthy, there is always a suggestion of medication. Medication does not cure illness it treats them. The medical health system generates billions of dollars of simply treating illness for long periods of times. The human body is designed to cure itself but with the lack of nutrition it’s impossible, however not reversal. Eating healthy can cure up to almost everything. “Vegetarian diets—naturally low in saturated fat, high in fiber, and replete with cancer-protective phytochemicals—help to prevent cancer. Large studies in England and Germany have shown that vegetarians are about 40 percent less likely to develop cancer compared to meat-eaters” (Chang-Claude).
