Food Booths

I decided to attend the 8th annual Lebanese festival that takes place in the parking lot of a church. The festival celebrates the Lebanese culture and is a fundraising opportunity for the church. At the festival there were a variety of food booths, music, dancing and activities for children. In most of the food booths the food was authentic Lebanese food. One booth had American food and another one, Filipino food.
First I walked around to see what type of food they were selling and I asked the vendors about the food. Since it was the first time that I attended the festival I was very surprised by the variety of Lebanese food. Each booth had something different; they had foods such as: grape leaves, kibbe ball, hummus, baba ghanouj, kafta kabob, tabouli, fatoush, basmati rice, falafel, beef and chicken shawarma, falafel sandwich, manakeesh, saj bread sandwich. In the American booth, they were selling hamburgers and hot dogs and in the Filipino booth, they were selling: pancit, puto, egg rolls and banana toron. I learned that the reason why they sold Filipino and American food is because the church has a big Filipino and American community as well.

It took me a long time to decide what food I wanted to try and ask some of vendors what were the ingredients and since I had never had Lebanese food. It was very difficult to decide. Finally, after a while I decided to try fatouch, it was made of special pita (flat) bread, chopped lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, mint leaves, parsley, radish green onions, and a Mediterranean dressing made of yogurt and basil. I thought that choosing the dessert was going to be easy, but they had more desserts than I had expected. I wanted to try all of them, but I decided two. I had baklava, the most authentic and popular dessert. Delicious, multi layers of thin crunchy pastry dough stuffed with various nuts. I also had ghraybeh, a famous Lebanese soft, butter
