Fonda Jordan Leadership Style

A servant leader engages the entire team or organization in a process that creates a shared vision, which inspires each person to stretch and reach deeper within himself or herself and to use everyone’s unique talents in whatever way is necessary to independently and interdependently achieve that shared vision (Greenleaf, 1977, p.3). Proving that servant leadership is not a leadership style reserved for religious leaders, Fonda Jordan, a seasoned Accounts Payable supervisor exemplifies this leadership style over her team of nine at DB Schenker. Fonda Jordan began her tenure with DB Schenker in 2009 as a temporary Accounts Payable Coordinator where she demonstrated her value to the company and was hired on in a permanent position. Her talents set her apart from other employees allowing for a promotion into a team lead position in 2014 and finally the …show more content…
Jordan like other leaders may not have attached a formal label to her leadership style she displays many of the characteristics of a servant leader as set forth by Greenleaf. She mentioned empathy, communication and trust three critical attributes a servant leader possesses. Additionally, Ms. Jordan detailed what she considered to be another key factor in her management style:

My faith directs my decisions; I will not allow my position or a decision regarding my position to compromise my integrity. I seek guidance from God regarding a major decision I am entrusted to make as I understand that the consequences of my decision have the potential to not only affect myself but my team as well. I hold myself at a higher standard knowing I have people under me who trust that I have their best interest at heart.

The essential quality that sets servant leaders apart from others is that they live by their conscience, the inward moral sense of what is right and what is wrong. That one quality is the difference between leadership that works and leadership – like servant leadership – that endures (Greenleaf, 1977, p.
