I found this concept most important because I believe effective followership is equally as important as effective leadership. They go hand in hand. In fact, part of being a good leader is displaying followership and teaching followership skills. At every point in your career you will be a follower whether you realize it or not. As enlisted members in the Profession of Arms we will always be subordinate to our commissioned leadership. Even the senior enlisted leader of an organization has to answer to a higher authority.
It is very important that we show our subordinates that followership is not mindless conformity nor is it an objection to authority. In my opinion followership is an underrated aspect of leadership mainly because of its negative sounding overtone. I will see a direct impact on my subordinates and supervisors. If effective followership is practiced I can expect to see my subordinates and supervisors will be more engaged and committed. I would see increased dialogue with my co-workers and the quality of our working relationship would be increased for the better. I believe it will instill a collaborative approach and positive transformation will be the result. I feel that with a can do attitude and the courage to both assume responsibility and also courage to challenge the probability of mission success is substantially
