Folliculitis Case Study A man named Charles Darnay had symptoms that indicated folliculitis, which is an inflammation of the hair follicles. He had itchy and red skin, as well as pus-filled blisters. The symptom that indicated folliculitis the most was small, red pimples that developed around his hair follicles. In order to diagnose the disease, a skin swab, which is performed by lightly scraping the affected, was done and sent to the laboratory in order to determine what was causing the folliculitis, which would lead to determining which treatment option is best. Also, a skin biopsy, a procedure which in which skin tissue is taken and analyzed, was performed in order to rule out other skin conditions. Normally, the skin should be fairly smooth, and hair follicles should not have any abnormal elevations around them. There should also be hair present on the skin. However, since the folliculitis was caused by a bacteria, it made the most sense for the dermatologist to prescribe antibiotics.
