Folk Music Research Paper

Folk music has a very wide description and can be created in many forms. Folk music just as Folklore is typically passed down orally from generation to generation. Because of this one song may have many different versions and is typically short because of forgetfulness from being passed down. It also typically has an unknown artist so a lot of folk songs are not by the artist him/herself.
One criteria is folk songs are that their short, this is because of the forgetfulness of the song being passed down. The Dead South fails my first criteria for this song. If we look at another Folk sing Johnny Cash for instance, he nails it most of his songs are two to three minutes
The music videos in Folk have their own style as well when compared to other genres. When looking at Rock music videos you will see a lot of movement bouncing and pumping. Not only that they are song with a softer tone kind of like country music. A Lot of folk music although his song softly but there composers are usually olders so it sounds rougher. Once again Johnny cash is a great example, his music is song in a soft tone but his voice is rough and low. The Dead South meet this criteria, the lead singer sings with a soft and rough tone. Style, taking a step back from the music itself the composers of folk have a typical style to them. The dress in an older manner or even a style that could be described as dark or mysterious. Even an old country style would be a good description. The composers in Dead south wear white shirts, suspenders, fedoras and cowboy hats, as well as dirty boots.
