Reform is going to require an affiliation or partnership mindset” (p. 63). Local businesses should become involved in their community to help bring an end to homelessness. Additionally, these businesses can also learn about what causes homelessness and how they can help to reduce it. Businesses have the opportunity to form partnerships with organizations that can assist the homeless by providing donations. The Cooperative Agreements to Benefit Homeless Individuals (CABHI) provides funding to help support and house the homeless population.…
Age, dementia, and the need for complex care are the three main disparities that prevent patients from acquiring a long-term care bed. As mentioned above, there is a high number of people above the age of 65, which is expected to rise with the baby boomers moving into their later stages in life (Rice and Fineman, 2004). These older adults also are requiring more complex help with there health as they have multiple conditions that require high levels of support (Ontario Long-term Care Association, 2016). Dementia is reported as being a common diagnosis among ALC patients and is known to be a common risk factor for institutionalization (McCloskey et al., 2014). To be specific, 63.6% of the ALC population had a diagnosis of dementia (McCloskey…

Every day, volunteers and staff prepare a warm meal for the homeless. In her article, Lauren Mascarenhas stated “The organization aims to set aside blame and judgment as they aid the homeless” (Mascarenhas). This view of the homeless is very humble. When the staff is helping them out, they do not see them as people who sleep on the street everyday, in contrary they see past that and they treat them as if they were from a higher class.…
My awareness of the epidemic of homelessness was manifested in prepubescence. Occasionally, I had a glimpse of poverty stricken individuals in my community. Each time I encountered them, I was immediately overcome with feelings of compassion, indignation, and sorrow. Additionally, I felt compelled to provide a monetary contribution on every occurrence. In addition, my thoughts regarding the segment were, that a national strategy should be constructed and implemented to abolish homelessness.…
Major companies are always being asked questions by consumers and other people about their business, and their business ethics. The answer to these questions, and business ethical values are crucial to consumers, and will decide for the consumer whether they would like to purchase products from that business or not. An example of an organization that faces these issues is Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart is one of the largest organizations in the Unites States, and is faced with ethical problems everyday. Wal-Marts standards are all about satisfying the customer with the lower prices than any other store.…
As a young child Imogen Cunningham was fascinated with painting and drawing, later she would find interest in photography. She purchased her first camera in 1901, at age 18, by mail order and taught herself how to use a 4 x 5 inch camera. However, she lost interest fairly quickly and sold the camera to a friend. Five years later, while at the University of Washington, in viewing works of Gertrude Käsebier, Imogen decided to revisit photography once more.…
In November 2017, I spent a weekend at a charity organization called Heifer Farm that works to end hunger and poverty. This experience lets people understand how fortunate industrialized nations are. Most of us do not even think twice about where we will get our food or if we have available clean water or electricity. During the trip I had to live in a section of the farm dedicated to houses that display poverty conditions based on a country; the Global Village. The houses did not have heat or electricity and later in the day it began to rain.…

However, this organization requires help from volunteers and neighbors to make their project successful. According to this article, the reason why existence of poverty is not accepted by most American is due to the fact they uphold a stereotypical image about what poverty looks like. If the images shown do not portray a shabby shelter along with emaciated children and family, then the guidelines for poverty have not been met, and it is further impossible for Americans to think that they can can have homes which do not follow the stereotypical image. The organization uses these methods to get people to donate for them. However, the idea that isn’t accepted is those who can barely live from one paycheck to another, or cannot get a high paying source of income.…

In a world filled with materialism, self obsession, and greed, it is easy for people to forget what truly matters. At the core of human existence, it is undeniable that people cannot survive alone. In order for civilizations to thrive and endure, people must look out not only for their own self, but for other people as well. Today, we live in a world where this problem is undoubtedly apparent, proven by the amount of homeless families and people across the globe. Homelessness is a major social and economic problem that has intrigued my curiosity, and challenged me to discover more.…
1. Setting the scene: social purpose as business driver During the last decades the social purpose of business has gained a prominent role in profit and accumulation strategies worldwide. Corporations invest more money and human resources in the development of social strategies as a key element for economic success. Between 2004 and 2013 the corporate social responsibility investments of the 261 world leading companies increased from US$7,6 billion to US$25 billion, roughly a growth of 328% (CECP, 2005 and 2014). Such a sum not only is important in terms of its size, which is above the annual GDP of at least 82 developing countries but also, and probably more significant, such increase occurred during and after the 2008 financial and economic crisis.…
