“Saving Sourdi” by May-Lee Chai, the author uses two sisters, Nea and Sourdi, as foil characters to allow Nea, the protagonist, to stand out more distinctly. The relationship between the two sisters and their contrasting personalities is the center of the plot. The author shows the reader that Nea is headstrong and impulsive, where as Sourdi is more laid back and mature. For example, in the scene where Nea stabs the man in the arm for tormenting her sister, their Ma states to Nea,“You not thinking. That your problem.
