I jumped out of the car, flashlight in hand, I scouted the area. There was nobody to be seen. No lights were on. The pub closed, out of business.

Suddenly, a rustle sounded from behind a bin. Cautiously, I walked over, ready to be ambushed. As fast as a ninja, I flew around the corner. Arms out in front of me for protection, my eyes closed, I was prepared to be beaten to a pole. But all I heard was a soft meow. An ugly hairless cat sat before me, chewing on a skinny mouse.

Exposition There were butterflies in my stomach and I could feel beads of sweat run down my face. A policeman unlocked my handcuffs and pushed me into the dark cell. My clothes were mucky and weighed down with sweat. The dirty cell had a foul stench of garbage and rotten sewage which made it impossible to withstand. My family were supporters of women's rights ever since I was a little girl .…

It was a night like most others in the abandoned ghost town. All I saw was darkness and shadows creeping around every corner. I heard the howls of coyotes and the hooting of owls through the midnight air. The whistling wind rang the rusty, wind chimes dangling from the old run-downed mansion. The sign above read “Muddy Creek Manor”.…

The Hunted I didn’t know who I was. I woke up next to a bunch of muddy kids. They all smelled like they haven't showered in weeks. There was two twins, a chubby kid, and probably the skinniest kid I’ve ever seen. Then I realized I smelled just like them.…

The four of us were having to take drastic measures to survive. We leave we could all die, but if we stay we die of starvation. I decide to open the doors and a gust of wind hits my face and light blinds me for a few seconds. We walk out with guns raised to see nobody there. Walking out the rusty metal door to see the former blue sky covered by a mask of gray smoke.…

It was ghost quiet except for the rhythmic dripping from these water gutters. The moonlight, like a parching owl beheld steadily on a branch was witnessing a devastating catastrophe. Three men, dressed in nearly identical black uniforms stood in a semicircle just around the edge of the street. Breaking the harmonic silence was a rapid panting, and occasion screech of a girl. There was already a smoking flame was crawling onto her lungs and slowly eating into her throat from the previous escaping of those men.…

Deep in the dark, foggy woods a woman screamed for her life; she seemed to be in her early 20s. She ran quickly, very far away from what seemed to be a small girl that was covered in blood, her skin was brown as the dirt and her chocolate-brown hair covered her gruesome face. She was swinging from the trees to get to the woman. The woman was obviously terrified of this little girl as she had multiple shivers down her spine and her face was obviously showing a sign that she was scared to death. Suddenly, the woman tripped on a thick branch and fell.…

Animal Crack The animal crackers were talking to me again, this time in whispers. Inaudible at first, when you didn’t pay close enough attention to the rhythm of their speeches. Their voices like slaves freed from their chains and running away into the wilderness, confused but free, hurt but cured, as they moaned their hard and warranted tears. Their eyes shut yet open, and their mouths heavy yet agape.…

The light’s source was the burning metal husk of a sedan which had taken a nosedive off of a cliff about forty feet high lining the right side of the road. Peter noticed it had originally been white but the fire was now converting it to charcoal black. It was astounding it had landed in the road rather than continue barreling down the entire mountainside. Behind the wreck was a dirt driveway sidewinding its way up a steep hill. A wooden fence followed the path but the section that bordered the top ridge was shattered and its splinters dotted the surrounding pavement.…

1:42 am. Gasping; the type of gasping a helpless girl would have if she were drowning in a sea of water. Across my bedroom, whistling of the wind begins creeping around my window sill, making its way across my hardwood floors, and slithering onto the painted walls. Frigid streams of blood reluctantly travels through my veins, resembling an infant bird, weary to come out of its nest for the first time. Forming above my layer of skin, goosebumps rise like my fear of ants rising from the dead.…
