Focused observation with reflection:

Today I observed three children in the classroom, the teacher gave instructions to play with some toys, and books, that she brought to class, and it was like 20 items in the box, but it was everything different. So every kid went to grab one thing and three children wanted the same book, and then they were pushing and screaming that everybody gat it first, so the teacher came down to the children and try to calm them down, she asked what was the problem, and the little kids were telling her because of the book the teacher came with them to the table and gave to them other differents books, she was a little bit busy. I think the teacher didn't made a good sandwich because she did calm down the children,

Each chapter of Ethnographic Eyes brings a new view of note making and taking. This chapter focuses in on perspective. Being a student teacher has a unique perspective because we are trying to build our own perspective as a teacher as well as examining the students’ views to better understand how to teach them. In an ideal classroom, it would be extremely beneficial if the teacher had the time to focus in on the students like the student teachers in this chapter. This deeper look into their lives can explain behavior issues and also better the approach one is taking as a teacher.…

Sherrie O. Vanderhorst Adult Studies Seminar 1-Block1 Session 1 Writing Assignment As I walk through the halls of the elementary school where I work I often walk past small kids as young as the age of three with such big attitudes as big as you and I. I often ask myself, why are they so angry? Why are their attitudes bigger than he/she? Will they tell me the truth if I ask? Will/do they trust me enough to tell me?…

There is a big difference between conflicts and challenging behaviors, especially in the classroom. Conflict is “an expressed disagreement between children, usually involving property, territory, and/or privilege; or a mistaken behavior by a child or children, disagreed with by a teacher” (Gartrell, 2014, p. 512). Conflict is a natural and daily occurrence. While challenging behavior is define as “conflicts that cause harm or serious disruption; the term often connotes a continuing pattern of such conflicts shown by individual children” (Gartrell, 2014, p. 511). Challenging behavior is not usually found as an everyday occurrence.…

Last Spring, I had a student who was in the final semester of his senior year and was oppositional and rude in class. He had come to us because he had failed out of his previous private school and we were his last option. Because he is very intelligent he loved to point out every mistake that I made in class. I would politely accept these corrections, but was annoyed by his negative attitude. When he refused to participated with classmates during an experiment, I asked him to stay after and speak with me.…

The deaf culture has come to evolve and change over the years, at first it was oppressed and shunned from society, but now it thrives. The deaf community conquered many obstacles to get to where it is today. This agonizing story is told by a HDTV documentary called “Through Deaf Eyes”. I watched this film in my Introductory to Sign Language course, I learned so much from the video. I was surprised that I hardly knew any of the material covered by the film.…

This reflection will be in response to the field experience that was completed on the 12th of November, 2015 by Matthew Daykin. For my High School field experience, I attended Palmetto Ridge High School and observed both Mrs. Zacher’s ninth grade English class and Mrs. Reid’s ninth grade Science and Math classes. Palmetto Ridge High School (A.K.A. “The Ridge”) is a grade 9-12 school located in Naples, Florida. The Ridge has a total of 1,865 students; 46.33% of the students are listed as identifying as White, 7.29% are listed as identifying as Black, 40.8% of the students identify as Hispanic, 1.39% of the students identify as Asian, 2.63% identify as Indian, 1.29% identify as Multi-Racial, while only 0.27% identify as Hawaiian or Pacific Islander (“Palmetto Ridge High (PRH) School”, 2015). I believe my first lesson during this field experience came about a week before I actually completed my field experience at this location.…

The evaluator writes up a report following each of these informal observation.” This is destructive and disturbing. Students, especially, in elementary school, tend to lose focus and control of themselves when they are not aware of change, since their brain are not yet capable of coping with all in the sudden change. They are many reasons why, this is not a good strategy for principals or other evaluators to use on teachers. First, while completing my classroom observation, the majority of the students in the classroom lost attention to the lesson the teacher was trying to teach, and were focusing on me.…

I attended the “Do You Matter” public speaking event presented by Erick Chavez & Andrea Rascon. This interactive session was to allow participants to explore their privilege and identify how they can use their privilege to advocate for others. Erick gains attention in his introduction by addressing the agenda of the event and provides a coherent design of the presentation. He resumes his presentation with acknowledging community guidelines, such as “… respect, “I”-statements, one voice all ears, [and] confidentiality.” He spoke extemporaneously, mostly speaking from a manuscript.…

One example that links my observation to what has been presented about this specific life cycle stage is when the children were coloring. The older kids, I believe, were in third, fourth, and fifth grade. They have been coloring since they were taught when they were young. They were using their working memory to perform the task of coloring. One item of information that was significant to me through this observation is that if you are not sure how to handle a situation, talk to your boss, or my pastor in my case.…

Our greatest challenge in creating our piece was finding tangible meaning within the aesthetic aspects of our piece. We would do a lot of brainstorming that involved music and physical movement, so later we had to sit down and talk about the meaning that we’d found and that our classmates had found in the piece. Casey’s “character” was almost like a black hole, if black holes were seen as groovy and upbeat rather than empty and terrifying. It’s like a temptation for something irresistible, yet not necessarily detrimental. We kinds of liked keeping it very open ended as far as interpretations go.…

Too Much, Too Spoiled Consider these two parenting scenarios from psychologist, John Rosemond: • An 18-year-old daughter graduated from High School, and for a graduation gift her parents paid for her and her 20-year-old-boyfriend to tour France for two weeks. • A couple celebrated their son’s completion from kindergarten with cap and gown, invitations, tears of joy and an elaborate graduation party celebrated overseas in Windsor, England, at the largest of the six worldwide LEGOLAND parks. Anyone reading these two situations would agree that this is over the top parenting, and yet it is actions such as these that promote an attitude of entitlement in children. These kids will likely grow up to be unhappy, self-centered, impatient, and disrespectful…

SEP #4 In my observation of a Kindergarten class, there were many different teaching methods used. The teacher used many visual aids, and example would be when she asked the students to draw a pig. She displayed a pig on the board that was drawn by a guest speaker, and the students were asked to replicate the drawing. The teacher I observed also used games to enhance the student’s learning.…

Wow! Your post is a touching one regarding the child that took the video game cartridges from other children in the class and took some home. You handle the situation correctly when the other children told you who had the video games last; and you called him out of the room to speak with him about it. Bring the video tapes back to you was a big step for this child and you treating him with kindness and not showing how you really felt about him taking them in the first place. Working with children in this environment can create many different emotions depending on what is happening at the time.…

When picking the six pieces of art work for my art exhibit I wanted a common theme with in each of the works. The common theme with each of these art works that I see is bodies on motion. The order I would place these pieces of art works in my exhibit would start with the Vitruvian Man, then into Basketball player, next would be Motion Study: Male Nude, Standing jumping to the right, followed by Blue dancer, than Danza de La Tierra to the last imagine being Falling Women. The first three photos I placed in this order because without know the natural patterns the body moves in then we would be able to allow the body movement. The next photo shows the muscles that it takes to do a simple task such as dribbling a basketball.…
