Focus Learner

By using the focus learner’s previous knowledge, I am creating a lesson which begins with content the learner has previously learned. This will assist in boosting the focus learner’s confidence and help transition her into each lesson. By scaffolding content within lessons, I will assist the learner in maintaining knowledge of money concepts, such as identifying coins and their values. Repetition through the lessons and reviewing previously learned content at the beginning of each lesson, along with reviewing content at the end of each lesson, will also assist the focus learner in reviewing and maintaining knowledge. I also want to allow the focus learner to have faith in herself and not give up during the lessons. This is why each lesson focuses …show more content…
To assist the learner, I will create a safe and supportive environment to allow the focus learner to feel comfortable and can solely focus on learning. Having a safe environment and scaffolding learning will also assist the focus learner in becoming more comfortable with the material and allow her to forming meaning based on her learning experience. This meaning from learning will assist in deepening learning and allow the focus learner to become more familiar with the material and segue towards generalization and maintenance of learned material. Generalization of the material will assist the focus learner in using learned material outside of the classroom, while maintenance of the material will assist the focus learner in maintaining known knowledge and using this knowledge when needed in the classroom. By creating a safe environment, using planned supports, and using interactive activities, scaffolding learning, and allowing the focus learner to create her own outlook on learning, I hope to provide the focus learner with multiple meaningful ways of learning. Positive feedback and planned supports will be used simultaneously throughout the lessons to make learning meaningful and boost the learner’s motivation. This will deepen learning and allow the learner to generalize and maintain learned material for her

I found it very interesting to learn that children are motivated to learn things just beyond their understanding. In other words, they have an eagerness to learn as long as the material isn’t too difficult or too easy for them to grasp. Knowing this makes it easier to understand the needs children have in regards to their development. Initially, the child is introduced to the task with the assistance of a peer or adult and gently supported into succeeding at this level. Once they have developed confidence in the task they are then encouraged to explore their new skills on their own through a variety of methods.…

It is a legal requirement for all schools in England to have a behaviour policy, upon which teachers base all of their methods of behaviour management. Countless controversy over ability grouping has been around in communities all over the world, for over the three decades. Especially, there has been a serious issues involving segregation and inequity with the mask of ability grouping on the surface in the United States, such as race and social status. Part A: The two aspects of the effective pedagogy statement from the New Zealand Curriculum (Ministry of Education, 2007) that I will focus on are creating a supportive learning environment and making connections to prior learning and experience. These are two aspects that resonate with me and I consider them to be significant factors in effective teaching practices. Creating a supportive learning environment is important for a teacher to consider because it sets the foundation of the classroom, both physically and emotionally, between all members of the classroom community. For a teacher to be effective positive relationships need to be developed, not just with the students, but also with the wider school community, such as parents so that…

Student engagement is an important concept in learning. It refers to attention and interest in what is being taught (Strong, Silver, & Robinson, 1995). It increases academic achievement and active learning (Strong, Silver, & Robinson, 1995), Students must be motivated to learn in order to be engaged. Without motivation, students will be disengaged meaning they will lack interest in the class and will not be motivated to complete tasks that are imperative for learning (Strong, Silver, & Robinson, 1995). According to Taylor & Parsons (2011), high school students who are disengaged are more likely to drop out which makes it imperative that students at an early age are kept motivated to learn and interested in what they are learning.…
