Rocklin Police Department Thirty miles east of California’s State Capitol lies a unique town called Rocklin. This small town which was originally known as “Secret Ravine” originated in 1860, with a population of 440 and is recognized throughout history for its rock quarries and railroads. Rocklin built its first city jail in the middle of the 1880’s, and was crafted of granite, with a small steel window and door. Each night a watchman patrolled the streets and approximately every evening at 8:00pm a curfew bell would ring, warning all vagrants to leave town and notify children to get home. Originally the jail was intended to house criminals, but in the early 20th century, it became a place for hobos to escape the long cold nights; however,…

I was able to participate in the Fullerton police ride along program, on April 8th from 10am-6pm, under Officer Lopez’s shift. Before arriving for the scheduled ride along, one needs to submit a waiver form. The form was not available online or the community service bureau not opened 24 hours, this created a delay in setting up the ride along.…

INTRODUCTION Race relations in America has always been exceptionally antagonistic, as compared to other nations (Myrdal, 1944). The disproportional number of minorities, especially Blacks, being involved in the criminal justice system, has often been highlighted to indicate the level of racial tension in the country. In the 1970s, however, findings regarding the disproportional distribution of school punishment among Black students (see Child Defense Fund, 1975), pointed out to the fact that racial disparities and tensions are not restricted to the criminal justice system alone, rather schools too are influenced by them. Since the report in 1975, a number of researchers have attempted to study the link between race and school punishments…

The finished product is SANDAG’s Criminal Justice Bulletin. The CJ bulletin is produced biennially in a series of three publications. The first series of the 2013 CJ bulletin focused exclusively on part 1 offenses (homicide, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault); property crime is not included partly because of the inconsistency in determining who the victim is, which makes it difficult to accurately document victim characteristics (SANDAG, 2016). Violent crimes are of great concern to both law enforcement and the public in general and having a better understanding of how individuals are affected by violent crimes, law enforcement will be better prepare to develop crime preventions and intervention strategies to overcome them (SANDAG, 2016). SANDAG’s CJ Bulletin looks at the demographics, age, and gender when determining victim characteristics.…
