Flute Section Leader Essay

Decent Essays
In my senior year of high school, I became the flute section leader. It had been a position I had tried out for once before, my junior year, but lost out to a senior. I was responsible for teaching the rookies and guiding the upperclassman through the processes of learning the show music, the pep band music, and the proper marching technique. In addition, I had to always be prepared for the off chance that someone would forget something necessary for either the football games and competitions. Lastly, I made sure that as a section everyone was in a position to give a hundred percent at every performance.

I want to be a Link Crew Leader because I would love to be able to mentor freshman as my previous Link Crew Leaders did to me. I also feel that becoming a Link Crew Leader would not only allow me to help shape freshman to become better people but to help me become a better person myself. I have been both a volunteer at a summer program for first and second graders and an assistant coach for the special needs program at Alta Loma Little League. At the summer program I was tasked with teaching 3 classes of first graders to type and code. My most significant leadership experience would be when I was in the Girls Varsity Tennis Team. I had been in the tennis team during my highschool years, for 2 years. During that time I learned a lot about being a leader, such as what it means to lead others, and what qualities a leader should have. When I first started playing tennis I started at the position on 2nd doubles, to me I took it as that I was not good enough to play against an opponent by myself on the court. Which was entirely true, because when I began playing I was not any good whatsoever.…

Having the position came with many responsibilities. One thing I really focused on was bringing the chapter together with activities including: a fashion show, various contests, and a lock-in with games. Another aspect I hit on was recruitment. I organized an assembly for the middle school to briefly show them the National FFA Organization and what the chapter has done and what it can potentially do at local, state, or even national levels. I received my Greenhand and Chapter Degrees during my first two years.…

I now had the title of section leader in the band, and was also an upperclassmen of the football team. It wasn’t exactly as easy as it seemed from those of the past. The sophomores thought they knew everything just because they had been there one year before, and the freshman thought they were hot shit for making it through middle school. It was painful to witness the underclassmen of football only squat halfway down, or the underclassmen of band march out of time, and have your advice go in one ear and right out the other. I decided that I needed some type of legitimacy as a leader.…
