Superior Essays
Flush by Carl Hiassen is a spectacular novel for young readers; filled with plot twists that you would never expect. Carl Hiassen starts out with one or two characters and introduces new ones smoothly according to the plot. Speaking of it, the plot is exhilarating and also has a positive theme about protecting wildlife and nature. The novel is not too happy though. And when I say that I don’t mean people die every three pages, but Carl Hiassen put in a fair share of adventurous and sad moments. Flush is truly an aberration from any other ordinary novel and is personally one of my favorites. Noah Underwood’s mother, Donna Underwood, is afraid that he is too much like his father. Noah. Paine’s son, comes to jail and tells his father the Coral Queen has reopened. The rising action begins when Noah comes back from jail and overhears his mom talking on the phone about divorce. The next day Noah tries to talk his dad out of staying in jail. But his dad tells him to talk to Lice Peeking to help bust Dusty. Paine also tells him that Lice will help for a price so his dad tells him to offer their skiff. Noah is disappointed to hear this because he was hoping that when he was old enough his father would pass down the small skiff to Noah. but when he arranges a deal with Lice he doesn’t show up. Noah then goes to the small trailer and Shelly tells him that Lice ran away, but then Shelly offers to help bust Dusty. Shelly knows the secret of Dusty Muleman’s business because she used to work on the casino boat. Abbey and Noah then buy thirty-four bottles of concentrated fuchsia food coloring. Then meet up with Shelly and tell them the amazing plan called “Royal Flush”. The Climax is when Shelly gets her job back at the Coral Queen as a bartender and went to the bathroom and flushed down her portion of the food coloring. While she was doing that Noah snuck into the boat and did the same, but is met with a few obstacles on the way to get back out of the casino boat. Noah then yells geronimo as he expects his sister in the small boat they borrowed from his best friend, but instead lands in the filthy water. The boat stopped working for a little and then Abbey finally shows up and they are saved from Luno (Dusty’s human guardog) by a mysterious man. Now the falling action begins as soon as Abbey and Noah think they can return home, but their boat runs out of gas and slowly drift away into the
