My students commonly use English with friends, siblings, and classmates. My students in this AP course have all progressed through the school’s Spanish course sequence. They have taken Spanish 1-4 (for Heritage students). My students have no problems communicating, engaging, and participating in the target language, but the students do have issues with academic reading comprehension and writing. They can express themselves verbally in the present, imperfect/preterite, future, conditional, and subjunctive tenses effortlessly. However, since my students all grew up in the United States, they did not have the opportunity to learn how to write with fluidity in Spanish. The only writing skills that my students have in Spanish was learned solely in by taking Spanish 1 through 4 at the high school. Since my students grew up in Hispanic households, they are culturally aware, but they mostly know about Dominican customs. They have very little knowledge of other Latin American countries because they haven’t really been given the luxury to travel much. Except for visiting the Dominican Republic. My students have a variety of interest. They are into athletics, dance, music, and making
