Fluff Face Monologue

Great Essays
My mother tells me that dreams are crossroads, not belonging to the mortal or spirit world. In dreams, the deceased can communicate with the living, tie up loose ends. The lost souls would be able to apologize for anything done wrong, be able to say “I love you” one last time, and even tell them where a certain large stack of money is hidden. The possibilities are infinite in Crossroad. Once anything that made the spirit feel fragmented arose, they were condemned to wander Crossroad in search of closure. Crossroad is a place filled with pointless hope, but yet despair lurks, attempting to fill the void left behind. Both mortals and spirits inhabit the world. The only permanent residents are the lost souls gleaming with unwavering hope, because once you’ve reached your lowest, only then you are capable for the greatest change to occur.

The feeling of peace is just so familiar to me, enveloping me in arms of warmth and serenity. All reminding of Fluff Face for some odd reason. Ignoring my unknown surrounds, I pictured Fluff Face’s chubby brown face and stuffed insides of cotton love. Written in my best handwriting, Fluff Face bore “Daisy Caulfield” on his left paw. Dropping to my knees, I shut my eyes trying to block my emotions from escaping. I lost my parents. They are the ones who need me here. Father with his idiot dad jokes and Mother with her winsome smile gone. And, nothing I could do could fix it. All I seemed to be able to do was scream and scream. Scream into the abyss of clouds. Scream until I had nothing left but a raw voice and blood-red eyes. Within those screams, you could hear years of raw pain and anguish, all once buried deep, flooding out. Within those screams, you could hear what was left of Daisy Caulfield dying, trying desperately to not let her worst fears, abandonment and loneliness, consume

Cormac McCarthy’s novel, The Road, shows how a young boy grows to be independent. This makes me believe that McCarthy’s novel is a coming-of-age story. Through various aspects of his novel, McCarthy shows how humans are hybridized; we are a mix between dependency and autonomy and that determines our identity. As we learn, grow, and mature, we must find a balance between the spectrum of independence and community.…
