Mr I is most likely suffering from influenza and this can occur even after being vaccinated against the flu because of several reasons. One possible reason is that Mr I may have got exposed to the influenza viruses either shortly before getting vaccinated or during the two-week period after vaccination (2) which is when the body is still developing immune protection. This means that there is a chance that people such as Mr I may become ill even before they have the beneficial effects of the vaccine taking place. In addition, it is a fact “that there are many different flu viruses that spread and cause illness among people.”…

Rebecca, thank you for sharing your post with fantastic information covering immunizations concerns, example of Ebola, airborne isolation, infection prevention committee and reducing injuries. At Bellin in Green Bay, annual flu immunizations follow the same protocol, mandating staff within direct patient care those who deny the flu vaccine must wear a mask throughout the entire flu season. The first strategy is to promote the flu vaccination in the workplace by making sure your employees know where they and their families can get flu vaccines. You can influence this by partnering with a pharmacies or providers to get your employees vaccinated. Tara, Thanks for responding to my post. You brought up an interesting point, why are we as healthcare workers mandated by most hospitals to receive the flu vaccine or be punished by wearing the dreaded mask. As a RN, I receive the annual flu vaccine through my facility, but neglect to vaccinate my teenaged daughter. My husband too has not received the vaccine in several years. I have worked with several nurses that have opted out of flu vaccinations for health reasons (allergic reactions, poor overall health, etc.) or "just because".…

One of the biggest impediments to the success of college students, other than finals week, is illnesses. Flu season generally begins in October and ends in May. Which means, on top of all their classes and for most of the school year, college students must worry about the flu, especially because they are densely packed in the dormitories, which allows for easy spreading of illnesses. Despite this, few students tend to get vaccinated for the flu, even if it may be offered for free. To enact a change of culture here at Truman, we must first learn all we can about the reasons behind the decision to skip or receive the flu vaccine.…
