Flu Vaccination Research Paper

I believe that all nurses should receive the flu vaccination for several reasons. Some would be for the protection of themselves and their patients; for their place of business, and for their children. According to the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention), the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), and the Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (HICPAC) recommend that all U.S. healthcare workers get vaccinated annually against influenza. (Services, n.d.) Nurses, like all health care workers, are capable of exposure to many serious diseases, some that are deadly. In my opinion, if you work with patients or are able to handle things that could spread infection (flu), you should get the needed vaccines

According to the CDC (2015), there are three strategies to use when implementing a vaccine wellness program: promoting flu vaccination in the workplace, hosting a flu vaccination clinic in the workplace, and introducing other vaccine-preventable disease program such as an influenza education program. The first strategy is to promote the flu vaccination in the workplace by making sure your employees know where they and their families can get flu vaccines. You can influence this by partnering with a pharmacies or providers to get your employees vaccinated. Tara, Thanks for responding to my post. You brought up an interesting point, why are we as healthcare workers mandated by most hospitals to receive the flu vaccine or be punished by wearing the dreaded mask. As a RN, I receive the annual flu vaccine through my facility, but neglect to vaccinate my teenaged daughter. My husband too has not received the vaccine in several years. I have worked with several nurses that have opted out of flu vaccinations for health reasons (allergic reactions, poor overall health, etc.) or "just because".…

Obtaining ones flu shot contributes to a nurse doing no harm as a nurse should do everything possible to protect their client from illness (“NHS leaders criticize,” 2013). The risks associated with the yearly influenza vaccine are much less then those associated with the illness itself. Multiple studies demonstrate the benefits of receiving the vaccine outweigh the cons (Mion, 2013). There are also various studies claiming the cons of receiving ones vaccine. The major point argued is that becoming vaccinated reduces a nurse’s autonomy (“Centres for disease,” 2011).…
