I have not been the same person for more than a day. From the very beginning I have been molded and cast by the world around me in a constant harmony of giving and receiving experiences and lessons. To colligate all the experiences one endures through life, into one general description, such as positive or negative, would be to grossly understate the impact of every single moment and the beauty of each detail. I wish to give more to the world and my community, through appeal and beauty. At FSU I can hope to get a head start in my education in advertising to be able to ignite a passion in others through research and communications.

From the age of four, I have been participating in Miramar PAL soccer league. I have moved from being a participant to the head administrator’s assistant. My Saturdays are often spent hosting adoption events for cats at a Petco for Animal-Aid. These four hour events are usually slow, with curious individuals passing by every so often. Small interactions really sharpened my capacity for empathy, listening to stories of loss and travels. Through these experiences I have truly recognized my knack for socializing and customer service. My listening skills are easily put to use when I realize I truly want to make things easier for these people. I genuinely enjoy learning from others, to understand a stranger’s perspective. I excel in teamwork as learned from my years in sports, and problem solving is second nature to an individual like myself, one who is creative and eager to work with others. It is amusing to notice the patterns in human nature. Even more captivating is how people can be so diverse and their decisions so unprecedented. The environment at Florida State seems ideal for someone like myself, looking for the unique individuals in the diverse population the school

Rough Draft-Application Essay Ever since I was a little kid my family has been hunting and going out into the whitetail woods in hopes of getting a nice buck. I remember going out to my grandparents and seeing the deer my family had harvested that fall, and wondering when I could finally get to go and experience what it was like myself. I always watched my dDad come home and have a little buck in the bed of his truck and I thought how come it wasn’t like in the hunting shows where they go out and shoot a massive buck.…

My communication skills have benefited greatly, I am able to communicate with my customers to ensure satisfaction, but have also learnt how to communicate with my co-workers and employers in order to maintain healthy relationships. I have come across several situations where I have been able to benefit the store or pharmacy with the my ideas, though they were small, such as changes in the layout of a station or a change in the way that we presented products. I have also learnt to be more accepting towards others ideas and opinions. Tim Horton’s specifically helped me manage information and use numbers because I was responsible for counting, calculating, and entering daily cash totals, as well as managing food production, usage, and waste. Volunteering at the pharmacy also helped because I helped organize prescriptions and arrange prescribed drugs.…

Looking at the Fair Labor Standards Act Prior to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) earning enough money to support a family was very hard. At this time, employers could pay their workers whatever they pleased. This resulted in whole families, including the children, working long hours in terrible conditions for barely enough money to survive. Today the FLSA protects workers from employers who only seek to exploit them. It establishes a minimum wage, overtime pay, and equal pay.…

Before addressing why Pitt is a good choice for me, I would like to review why I am a good choice for Pitt. The University of Pittsburgh values their “talented, diverse and high achieving students”, their “safe and healthy campuses”, their unique balance of “fun and camaraderie with internships and other learning opportunities outside the classroom”, and their focus on “developing students into global citizens” (University of Pittsburgh webpage, ‘Prospective Students’). I am a well-rounded student who places priority upon academics, as well as a broad array of performing arts extracurricular activities, over 300 hours of community service, several job experiences and religious organizations. Therefore, if admitted to The University of Pittsburgh, I would fit right in with the ardent and accomplished student body, just as I would benefit as a person and as…

I am confident in my academic ability; but waver when I think about the actual application of the information I have learned. With this assistantship, I will be able to practice what I have been taught. I welcome that whole heartedly. Frederick Douglass once said “It is not light that we need, but fire; it is not the gentle shower, but thunder. We need the storm, the whirlwind, and the earthquake.” This means that difficult circumstances are needed to become better versions of ourselves. As someone who overcame the difficulty of balancing academics, athletics, and involvement with clubs and organizations on campus, I personally agree with this statement. Based upon the qualities I developed during these difficult circumstances, Frederick Douglass would believe I’m deserving of a scholarship bearing his name.…
