Flowers For Algernon: The Whelan Tape Rehearsal Method

Being given the opportunity to be in Flowers For Algernon is something that I am extremely grateful for. I have loved the book since I read it in 8th grade when it was first introduced to it; it is one of my favorite books as of today and works beautifully as a play. This has been one of my favorite experiences on stage and one of my favorite classes I have taken. Being able to meet and become closer to so many people has made it just that much better. I have learned a lot from being a part of Flowers for Algernon from the Whelan Tape Rehearsal Method to acting in general. The Whelan Tape Rehearsal Method worked very well for me personally. The method helped me a lot with the memorization of my lines. I was surprised to see just how effective it was with that. Alternatively, the worst part about it was the time it took. The process takes a lot of time, so we didn’t have a lot of time left to go back and re-rehearse the scenes that were already done. There were some scenes that I wish could have been more rehearsed prior to the show. But, overall, I liked the method and I wouldn’t mind using it again in other shows. …show more content…
There were a couple of times that I messed up, but they weren’t huge, noticeable things. I think my strongest scenes were the ones that took place in the bakery and my weakest scene was Francis’s party in act one. I don’t know why, but that scene always gave me trouble. As for playing Mrs. Mooney, I think I also did a decent job all considering. While I could have done a better job looking back, I was pleased with what I managed to do. I didn’t think that I would be able to memorize what I did, and I was surprised to find that I had it learned fairly well. There are clearly many things that I could of done better, there always is, but I am proud of the performances that I

On November 22nd , 2015 , I had attended a play “A servant of Two masters” that played downtown Pittsburgh at the O’Reilly theater, the play was directed by Ted Pappas. He had put together a creative and intriguing play, having actors stay spontaneous and interact with the audience, therefore no parts would be found boring nor dry. All the actors had held up their end of their roles quite well, by fully disguising themselves as that character they were suppose to be during the entire play. In the play “A Servant of Two masters” is about a girl Clarice who originally had an arranged marriage but was called off due to her fiancé death, who was Federigo Rasponi of Turin.…

There are many differences between the book The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson and the 1999 film, The Haunting, directed by Jan de Bont. The main characters in the film are, Lili Taylor as the timid Eleanor Vance, Catherine Zeta-Jones as the beautiful, frisky Theodora, Owen Wilson as the deceiving Luke Sanderson, and last but not least, Liam Neeson as Dr. Marrow (Montague in the book). Many argue that this movie barely follows with the book at all. Lisa Schwarzbaum, writer for Entertainment Weekly believes that the movie is just awful. Roger Ebert, writer for the Chicago Tribune believes “The story is a mess,” but also states: “To my surprise I find myself recommending ‘The Haunting.’”…

My experience in the Mary Poppins cast has been probably one of the best things to happen to me so far in my life. At my old school in 10th grade I was in theatre, then the following year I was bullied out, and I desperately missed theatre. It was my life, I enjoy it so much and it is such a part of me. So coming here and deciding to audition on just the second day of school was a really big deal for me. I was absolutely terrified to, but I stuck through and did it anyways, and I am so happy that I did.…

The Tragedy Recreation of Richard III The performance of Richard III is a fruitless play about a play that begins in a car park; the residence of long lost Richard III’s skeleton. This piece combines contemporary theatre with Shakespearean theatre to supposedly engage the audience’s understanding and reflection of the nature of evil, the value of Shakespeare and traditionalism of plays. Richard III was co-written by Daniel Evans and Marcel Dorney and directed by Daniel Evans as a recreation of the classic Richard III and an exploration of the legend of this famous king. However, it was a disappointment to attend at La Boit Theatre and the dramatic meaning was lost. The approach whilst mildly interesting and having clearly used the elements…

The results of my PRCA-24 were a little surprising but in a good way. I got an 84 which was much higher than I thought it was going to be which I guess reflects on the fact that maybe I don 't give myself as much credit as I should when thinking about my public speaking ability. One of the things the test made me realize is that i’m more nervous in regular life than I am nervous when public speaking, because I thought about the questions if they referred to the circumstances of everyday life. I guess that’s the benefit and downside to being a performer. Watching the video was a little bit strange for me because I’m always perceiving myself differently when I’m up there, which is partly a perspective switch but also sometimes it’s also focusing…

Sideway stories by wayside school was, to me, unexpectedly good. Usually I do not like stories made for children but this felt different, I have also never read the original story as it never really made it to Europe. I think most of it is because of three aspects. The acting, the way the play was adapted from the books and the stage production.…

I do think I felt myself leaning forward a bit when making a point, but overall I thought my felt good. When it came to the gestures and eyes, I really wanted to use them to emphasis my dialog and help to engage the audience. I practiced in the mirror and I think this helped to make those moments effective. I wanted to linger a bit with my hand and arm movements so the audience has a chance to connect and I think I did that in the performance.…

In high school I went to career center for two years for theatre. A big part of our grade each quarter was doing memorizing monologues and scenes and performing them for the class. Every person in that class had their own methods of memorizing their lines; some people wrote their lines out, others recorded themselves saying the lines and played it back, and some just repeated the entire thing over and over again. All of these methods are a version of encoding called rehearsal, where by using repetition the lines were memorized and stored as long term memory. For myself, I would read a sentence or two of the piece I was trying to learn, repeat to myself several times, move on to the next couple of sentences and repeat them to myself until I…
