Whether they were young or old. Whether they were just tired or were balling their soul out. Her older sister shining personality was always there to cheer people up; to cheer her up.
That was her job now. She had to make people happy, she would have take care of her sister. She was the oldest now, it was her responsibility. But thinking back to those times with her sister caused a sob to build up in her throat. Stop that, she thought herself. You’re not allowed to cry. Those memories are happy memories, don’t tarnish them with your tears. You promised her.
That right. Before her older sister had passed away she had made Evelyn promise something.
“Evelyn,” she had said, “promise you’ll always keep smiling. That you’ll always face life head on. Do what you love. Do what I won’t be able to do. And please, don’t forget me.” Evelyn had remembered that she had be unable to move; that she couldn’t speak. Her emotions raged on inside of her. Part of her wanted to yell at her sister for thinking that she could forget her sister. Another part of Evelyn wanted to thank her sister for her words or wisdom. Bending downward, Evelyn gently sets her flower bouquet down. Asphodel flowers and almond blossom peeked from the midst of campanula flowers. She hoped that her sister would understand. That she would comprehend the message Evelyn had been unable vocalized.
With a spark, fire flicked to life in the crater. Soon her sister and all her gift were ablaze. The fiery ember consumed everything. They were finally sending her off to the afterlife. Her body, her soul, her very presences in this world would soon be gone, lost to another world. As the flames grew higher, the poison in her blood intensified, and the stones of regret in her stomach grew jagged.
But in the end, did it matter? The flowers, her regrets, and memories, they all burnt, quickly turning to ash. Higher and higher the smoke continued to climb, disappearing into the sky. Their time together could not return, just as ashes could not return to the beautiful wood it once
