Flowering Regrets The sun beats down on her. Sweat trickling down her face, soaking her black garments. The flowers in her hands were starting to dry up. Their leaves were becoming fragile, brittle to the touch. As she walks forward petals fall. Behind her, there was a procession of people following her. They are all wearing black, some holding candles, others were hold gifts like food or flowers. Dull stones bulged from the vibrant grass, flower petals caressing the cold stone as they flew by. On that path they continued to march. Leading the procession, her father and uncles carries a wooden casket, beautifully decorated with azalea flowers. Whether they were young or old. Whether they were just tired or were balling their soul out. Her older sister shining personality was always there to cheer people up; to cheer her up.
That was her job now. She had to make people happy, she would have take care of her sister. She was the oldest now, it was her responsibility. But thinking back to those times with her sister caused a sob to build up in her throat. Stop that, she thought herself. You’re not allowed to cry. Those memories are happy memories, don’t tarnish them with your tears. You promised her.
That right. Before her older sister had passed away she had made Evelyn promise something.
“Evelyn,” she had said, “promise you’ll always keep smiling. That you’ll always face life head on. Do what you love. Do what I won’t be able to do. And please, don’t forget me.” Evelyn had remembered that she had be unable to move; that she couldn’t speak. Her emotions raged on inside of her. Part of her wanted to yell at her sister for thinking that she could forget her sister. Another part of Evelyn wanted to thank her sister for her words or wisdom. Another wanted to cry out her love for her sister. But she was too late. As her sister’s heart monitor came to a halt. the last petal of the white lilac at her bedside

She walks toward the casket, carefully placing her feet in front of another, afraid that she might fall.
Bending downward, Evelyn gently sets her flower bouquet down. Asphodel flowers and almond blossom peeked from the midst of campanula flowers. She hoped that her sister would understand. That she would comprehend the message Evelyn had been unable vocalized.
With a spark, fire flicked to life in the crater. Soon her sister and all her gift were ablaze. The fiery ember consumed everything. They were finally sending her off to the afterlife. Her body, her soul, her very presences in this world would soon be gone, lost to another world. As the flames grew higher, the poison in her blood intensified, and the stones of regret in her stomach grew jagged.
But in the end, did it matter? The flowers, her regrets, and memories, they all burnt, quickly turning to ash. Higher and higher the smoke continued to climb, disappearing into the sky. Their time together could not return, just as ashes could not return to the beautiful wood it once

I was over ecstatic when Fernando, (also known as Fernie) my best guy friend asked me to go on a walking adventure with him in our hometown of Kelseyville, California. We started off the day by walking in the forest alongside of Kelsey Creek. This forest has a really big meaning to Fernie and I, because we both love nature in every aspect and these walking adventures are not uncommon to us. Starting on the path we both got lost in our own thoughts, I got distracted by looking above me at the the canopy the tree branches created. My eyes followed the patterns the sunlight was creating as it broke through the leaves and cascaded onto the uneven forest floor.…

Normally, it was not unlike Kolda to rise before a human had any right to, on the cusp of an ink-blotted morning, when the trees were still working tirelessly to shake the vestiges of dew from their waxy-leaves. When, on the horizon, a burnt orange ribbon lined its lip, radiating waves of indigo and cobalt and casting the world beneath it in an eerie, complacent glow. A creamy fog would trickle across the hyssop field from border of Sylph Grove, a merciful cover to nature’s cities beneath, blotting the cotton-hued blanket with splotches of bold lavender. The fog brought the smell of the mountains with it, mating with the wooden and charcoal scents of her home, to wrest her from her dreams. She would obey, rising seamlessly, donning her fur-lined…

Reconciliation Interrupted by the faint sounds of birds chirping and grass swaying in the gentle breeze, the calming silence became a distant memory. As the birds flapped their wings, moving at the edge of the tiny meadow, from one tree to the next, they cast their shadows over the body of a small brown skinned, black haired girl. She lay on her back in the hilltop grass, facing directly up towards the almost blinding light of the afternoon sun. Her dark skin, holding a lively warm glow, reflected the rays of sunlight off of her quickly flickering eyelids. Suddenly, they were open, revealing her dark brown almond shaped eyes and her ever so slightly off white sclera.…
