My plans and goals after completing this degree all relate specifically to the effect this degree will have on my life and on the lives of those that I will be able to impact. I have worked in a variety of fields but have yet to find a career. I elected to apply for a Master’s in Information from Florida State University because of the range of employment opportunities that having this degree will provide. This degree will give me a career path that will have a positive impact on my community, offer a variety of positions I can grow in, and allow me to utilize my previous experience and strengths.
I have realized the importance of having a positive impact on my community. I had a life changing experience that showed the impact that one person or a small group of people can have on their community. After college, I participated in AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps). This program is often referred to as the domestic Peace Corps. The mission of AmeriCorps NCCC is to strengthen communities and develop leaders through team-based national and community service. I was based in Denver, CO with approximately 250 other 18-24 year olds. Our teams of around 10 people travelled and served

I appreciate that the Florida State University degree is not specifically geared toward Librarianship as many others are. At this point I am not sure which specific path I will take after graduation. I may pursue a career as a librarian, in research, or possibly in data architecture or IT. I could work in a school, museum, with a non-governmental organization, or as an independent researcher. I could stay in Florida or travel the world. My future jobs could range from running a literacy program for at-risk youth to being a researcher. This range of options is why I have elected to pursue this degree specifically and I am excited about the limitless possibilities it

Ever since I was little, I’ve always wanted to help people. Being a Boy Scout gave me the opportunity to do so. When I was eight years old I joined the cub scouts which began my life long campaign of helping people. I started off learning to take the oath to serve the people weather it be by the organization or myself. I assisted by selling popcorn for charity organizations ( The San Antonio Food Bank and The Knights of Columbus) or for money that we needed for our camp out trips.…

For my sixty hours of volunteer work I decided to volunteer at a Child Life Center which was in a poverty stricken area in Norfolk, Va. At the child life center my job as a volunteer was to assist the children with their homework, help the staff monitor the children on local field trips, as well as serve as a positive role model for the children. The experience I had at Park Place Child Life Center was one I will honestly never forget. Although I didn’t get any actual counseling experience, I was able to learn the ways that the non-profit organization received their funding, I was able to gain experience in working with the youth, and I was also able to make a positive impact on the lives of children who were considered “at-risk youth”. To go there every day and be able to see the change the children had in their behaviors and how much just some attention and affection from adults impacted their behaviors was honestly amazing.…

I have opted to enter college “undecided”. I have done so in order to prevent myself from switching majors multiple times once enrolled as so many others have been known to do. Rather, I plan to complete my prerequisite courses during my freshman and into my sophomore year. Then, once I’ve had the opportunity to speak with others in the career trajectories of my interests (anatomy/physiology, anthropology, medical technology), I’ll make a decision on the additional courses I will need to take toward my decided major. Once I have a degree in my desired field, I hope to get a job directly out of college in order to begin paying off the student loans that I accumulate.…

Being something positive in my community has always been a thing i’ve wanted but, not necessarily knew how to accomplish. It wasn’t until I was a freshman in highschool, I had the opportunity to actually be apart of an institution with a positive outcome. This left my mother to be the only one with a job, while my father had unemployment checks being sent monthly. My father had to humble himself, and one day while driving on the road, we saw a sign that said “ free groceries”.…
