Florida Highway Patrol Mission Statement

One of the most visible law enforcement agencies that has drawn me to the homeland security realm is the Florida Highway Patrol. In the past I have attend several job fairs just to see what job opportunity are out there. Florida Patrol Officers were always on the scene looking clean cut, in shape and professional. Even their patrol cars that seemed to be always parked in the front of the different building were clean and had a nice shine. I guess I can relate to their mission by my military discipline and organization structure. Their mission statement is simple and that is to "promote a safe and secure Florida through professional law enforcement and traffic safety awareness"(FHP 2014-2016 ). I also want to bring light to their strategic goals and that is to "Improve traffic safety, interdict criminal activity, enhance homeland security, provide communications, retain, develop, and recruit …show more content…
Applicants must also have one of the following "one year of law enforcement experience, two years public contact, two years of active continuous U.S. military service with an honorable discharge, completed 30 semester or 45 quarter hours of college credit from an accredited college or university( FHP 2014-2016). A physical abilities test must be passed along with height and weight being in proportion. The selection process can take anywhere between four to eight months from start to finish which includes: summiting the application, physical fitness assessment and written exam, polygraph test, psychological, medical, and vision exam and last but not least a full background investigation. The training academy is located outside of Tallahassee Fl. Recruits are subjects to a military type environment for up to 29 weeks that includes classroom and physical
