Florida Agricultural And Mechanical University Case Study

Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University(FAMU) is listed as one of the top Historically Black Colleges and Universities(HBCU) in the nation. For years, FAMU has held a great reputation and foundation for all HBCU’s. Recently, FAMU has just moved up from the number ten spot to the number seven spot in National Rankings. I know all of this sounds good, but do people really know what is going on inside the campus or should I say inside the students’ minds? There have been multiple cases over the past years, where students complain about their voices not being heard. This may sound like a typical student body issue, but it is not because every decision the school makes affects the students the most. Students should be able to voice their …show more content…
The board of trustees consists of thirteen members. Six of the trustees are appointed by the Governor and five of the trustees are appointed by the Board of Governors. Also, the Presidents of the Faculty Senate and Student Government Association are elected by their bodies and serve a one-year term. Analyzing this, they say they listen to the student body, but how can our voices be heard if we are only represented by one person on the board? When the voting process happened for President Magnum, everybody on the board of trustees voted against her, except for the student body president. Technically speaking, the student body vote was not best represented. The whole purpose of the student body president on the board of trustees is so the students have a say in things as well because the board of trustees are not students, they do not go through this campus every day, so our opinions on things may be different from …show more content…
Schools in the past have lost their credentials because of multiple presidents and financial failure. As FAMU students, we should not have to go through that, we should be able to graduate in four to five years with successful degrees. It is understandable that students do not know everything to make a big decision but it would be nice to just hear what we have to say because as a student our experiences are completely different that that of an adult. The students may have thought and said something that the board has never considered. It is worth the try, it will not break us or make us because the board has the final say regardless. Just to know that our voices are being heard means a lot to the students. Let us be a better school and come up with better solutions to this problem. Students should be able to voice their concerns and be listened to effectively and

As we were asked not to speak at the meeting today we did not address these concerns but we feel that it was disingenuous of Administration to not voice this as they are aware we are not protesting major credit requirements nor ever have in this protest. If we really care about addressing these concerns lets actually address them not host campus wide meetings in which the people actually protesting are not allowed to speak while we address concerns not related to the actual protest. An administration that promotes better communication but then tells student leaders not to speak while allowing the message of the protest to be misconstrued is hypocritical at best. Our slogan of Students Last is, we feel, a reflection of Administration and their actions in addressing student concerns.…

We discussed in class the importance of transparency and what drives decision making. We also discussed procedures and how they should be followed in order to protect everyone’s interest. If Trustees are to be trusted as the name implies, how do you not provide the president with information which drove your decision? It is my opinion that the decision of the board was reckless and not thought out. It almost seemed as if they were trying to build a case against Boyd by advising council to draw up charges against her before having any definitive facts.…

After graduating from Surry Early College, I might decide to attend Winston Salem State University (WSSU) or University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). WSSU is a very large, public university in a urban setting in Winston Salem itself. If I was to transfer to Winston Salem State University, they would have a flexible process to evaluate each course of the transcript of a Associate of Arts (AA) or an Associates of Science (AS) degree. The university is able to accredit me with a baccalaureate, masters, or a doctorate degree from psychological studies to arts and visual studies. Going to WSSU would be around $5377.16, but they offer financial aid to help cover the costs.…

To be in accordance with the dining services on campus, there are numerous innovative selections to accommodate the availability of dining options for students living on campus. Some of these options are in five different type of blocks ranging from 90 to 240 meal trades and about 300 to 500 dining dollars per semester. The price of dining options can range from $1,300 to $2,100 per semester not including tax.…

    1. Describe the target unsolved problem that you will analyze. I work at the admission/financial aid/cashier office (all classify under enrollment services) at a community college. One of the most prominent issue that exist within the enrollment office is the lack of communication between the higher ups and the employees. More specifically, our managers don’t really tell the front counter people (the people who have DIRECT contact with students) anything. Unless we go down and ask in person if there was a change in regulation or policy, it doesn’t really float back up to us.…

As a college student, you are paying for the courses that you take and you expect for the professor to teach the material that you are required to learn by the end of the semester for your exams. In college, it seems to be the norm for professors to go off topic and go on a rant about current social issues or even about our current president. To prevent this from occurring David Horowitz, a conservative activist created the Academic Bill of Rights. The Academic Bill of Rights has a focus on eight broad principles that would put an end to students being a victim of hearing professor political or religious beliefs. Colleges and universities should officially recognize the Academic Bill of Rights.…

A school board is a very important part of the school district. The member of the school board can be elected or appointed and they have many keys jobs that make them so important. Some of these jobs include making sure each child has the best education possible, think about the community’s viewpoint, and keeping the budget as close to the given amount as they can. When I first learned we had to attend a school board meeting as one of the assignments for this class, I wasn’t too thrilled, just because many meetings go over the same thing and it would be a bit of a hassle to go there. At this point, before going to the meeting, I was still in the point of view when I was in high school, but I soon realized that as a future teacher I should care…
