I felt as though I directly related to this piece of literature as well after having a child, and having another persons’ health and life in my hands allowed me to understand Nightingales major points in her book. She came from a wealthy family, and had very smart parents whom taught her 7 different languages; all of which she eventually became fluent in but she most liked math and statistics, so basically numbers. Nightingale knew she did not want to fulfill the “normal” life of a woman in the 50’s, she wanted more then to just get married and be a house wife. A lot of women, especially mothers, compete with this feeling internally of wanting to be a stay at home wife/mom, and wanting to make a change in the world, and Nightingale wanted to make a change, and she was, and still is very successful in doing so (McQueen, 29-49) I feel as though Barbara Dosseys’ article on Florence Nightingales Notes on Nursing is one of many supporting and admiring the things that Nightingale accomplished and did throughout her lifetime. Nightingale has written many books, letters, articles, journals, etc., all to inspire and change nursing and health all around the world, and she has done so. Nightingale shaped nursing into what it is today, and I believe nursing will continue to better and evolve with advancing science.
