Florence, Italy was a leading city during the Renaissance. It also became the center of banking, art and culture. Trading was beneficial in Florence because of its position near the Mediterranean. One of the major things they traded in this area was woolen cloth which abundantly increased the economy. Since this city was exceptionally wealthy it is a large representation of the Renaissance culture. Not to mention that Florence had the strongest tradition of democracy. The Italian city-state was ruled by strong families that supported the arts.
