When we first met Flamo he was filled with aggression. His brother had just been arrested, and his own mother thrown into handcuffs right in front of him. He was angry that someone had come for his family, and he was adamant they would not be getting away with it. Members of Cease Fire were concerned that Flamo’s retaliation would continue to cause more unnecessary violence in the community. By bringing him to a Cease Fire meeting, and speaking with him one on one several times, the idea of not retaliating continued to be introduced. Watching the film, it was almost as if no one had ever suggested that to Flmao before.
Later in the film we see Flamo again and he proudly explains that he helped mediate a conflict fright in front of his house, without even knowing it. By doing that he was being an active member in deceasing the violence around him, and introducing a new style of conflict resolution to others. The very last scene of the film we see Flamo dressed in a security uniform on his way to work. By interrupting Flmaos cycle of violence just that once,

It starts when enough people finally decide there is an epidemic of sorts; the belief that too many innocent community members are being affected. However, the work must come from the top. They explain that engaging community leaders, traditional or not, is the first step. For example, in “The Interrupters” we see some political leaders, but mainly we see leaders from the streets. Ex gang leaders, community volunteers, these are all relatable leaders to the audience. Once those leaders have made public strides against the violence, more are to follow. In all, the large goal is to no longer make violence a community norm. This takes years of breaking learned behavior. Therefore it is important to spread these changes from young community members
