The Renaissance artist that I chose is Filippo Brunelleschi. The reason why I decided to choose him is that I found his work in architecture very interesting(after I did a background check on him that is). Filippo Brunelleschi is well known for designing and building the dome on top of the Santa Maria del Fiore, or also known as the Duomo. Here are some interesting facts about Filippo Brunelleschi. Brunelleschi died on April 15, 1446 from sudden illness. Brunelleschi was the son of a lawyer and notary named Brunellesco Di Lippo, Filippo's mother was Giuliana Spini.(no information of wife or kids of any kind.) Brunelleschi was schooled in literature and mathematics to follow in his father's footsteps, but later decided to join the Arte della Seta, which included training for metalworkers. There was no reason to why Brunelleschi chose to make this piece of art. This specific piece of art was a free standing statue of Saint Peter himself. This piece can be found in the Orsanmichele church in Florence, Italy.

This piece of art that I chose is the dome on top of the Santa Maria del Fiore, it was created in 1418. The reason why Brunelleschi created this gigantic dome was to cover the equally sized gigantic hole in the ceiling of the cathedral. Brunelleschi refused to state how and what he would use to achieve this massive goal, due to fear that someone would steal his idea and use them for themselves. The Santa Maria del Fiore cathedral can be found in modern day Florence, Italy.
