Starting at the beginning, Flint is a fairly poor city. They decided to stop buying from Detroit and start buying from a new pipeline (Karegnondi Water Project). This was done in order to save more money. Detroit stopped providing them with water before they could get the other pipeline, so they started using Flint River’s water as a temporary source. While that was happening, Michigan legislature adopted a law that gave an emergency consultant the power to overrule anyone else in the court. I can assure that there is fault in Michigan and Flint’s government that must be fixed to put an end to this problem. Their government is not working hard enough to solve this problem. They have a shortage of quality staff to provide the right measure in this emergency, and they have failed to find a way to remove the corrosive damage. Mark Pollins of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency wrote, “Having a comprehensive and interactive plan, instead of individual pieces of a strategy, is essential to protect the residents of Flint.” There is no doubt their government is trying, but they are failing, and failure cannot be a choice when lives are at stake.
