Passengers aboard the flight were notified by the terrorists of the threat to their lives. Ultimately the passengers sacrificed themselves to ensure the safety of many others. September 11 is a day the world will never forget. By the end of this analysis, readers will understand more about the events of Flight 93 and how the passengers aboard demonstrated significant bravery and should be regarded as heroes. In my homeland security class, professor Comiskey defined September 11 as a “watershed event.” A “watershed” event is an event that occurs that has devastating effects resulting in a changed world. I could not have imagined being the loved one listening to these voice recording left just moments before their deaths. At this time during the flight, all the passengers knew that their plane was most likely going to be used in another attack. They understood the aircraft they were on was going to be a part of something larger and within thirty minutes, they devised a plan to storm the cockpit with the goal of reclaiming their lives and preventing another attack. These brave passengers decided to make a stand rather than wait for their death hopelessly. They were ready to fight and they were ready to do whatever it takes to stop just four men. Honor Elizabeth Wainio, another passenger aboard United 93, was on the phone with her stepmother when the decision was made to fight back saying, “I need to go, they’re getting ready to break into the cockpit. I love you. Goodbye”
