Flex Lunch Selection Sheet Essay

Between 11:09 AM and 12:12 PM, the brightly lit, eight-tile hallways of Center High School are littered with students sitting cross-legged while a pair of white, Apple headphones protrude from their ears. Students have only used the flex lunch selection sheet once — at the beginning of the school year — when all the teachers emphasized it. After this, teachers abandoned or forgot about the sheet’s existence. “Many of my friends and I did not even know that [flex lunch selection sheets] existed anymore. I usually sit wherever I am comfortable during flex lunch,” Senior Emmanuel Leon said. Technological devices also siphon students away from fully taking advantage of flex lunch. Often times, these devices entertain students for the duration of flex lunch, so students do not even seek entertainment from the various activities and clubs provided by flex lunch. In a recent poll, 8 out of 10 students said that technology has significantly affected their participation level during flex lunch. This also remains true on a wider scale in that CHS students simply aren’t aroused by clubs, but rather technologies, such as their smartphones; their phones have overtaken the entertainment aspect out of flex lunch.
In Center High School, the words “engagement” and “flex lunch” do not synonymously revolve around each other. This lack of engagement between 11:09 AM and 12: 12 PM will plague the hallways of Center

List of sentences which we suggest you should consider to rewrite to improve readability of the text : In No Lunch Left Behind by Waters and Heron, published in the New York Times, they discuss how spending for lunches is being put towards things in the actual cafeteria; for example the air conditioning and refrigeration. This idea of not eating the school lunch is mirrored in Waters and Heron’s article where they indicate that the school lunches are not healthy and delicious which is most likely making kids avoid school lunches. This does help towards the amount of fruits and vegetables a child should be eating per day but only providing one, and small, item is not beneficial towards a student's health.…

The early start time of school, the hot weather outside and inside of classrooms, and the short breaks the students receive all compile to what causes Diamond Bar High School to be limited in the improvement of potential positive effects on the students' quality of life First and foremost, in order to improve the lives of students in high school, school should begin later so students can get more rest in their daily lives. Adapting open campus lunch to high schools would prepare the students to that next step in their lives and when going to for example college they would have already had some experience about open campus. ” 95 percent of the students use the privilege responsibly” (Saslow "Schools Split on 'Open Campus'") Also, the students would become more mature and learn to take care of themselves since their parents aren’t always going to be there to look after them. Some parents might be concerned about the safety of the students but if they would really think about it, they would probably realize that letting them out late at night is even more risky than letting them go and get their own lunch during a school…

The term “school lunch,” has had a negative connotation ever since I can remember. There’s much more to school lunch than gourmet salads or mystery meat. All over the United States schools serve lunch to a variety of different students, with different backgrounds, age groups and income. Just in one school the systematic arrangement of the lunch ladies and the policies set in place are just tiny specs of a much larger picture. The fact of the matter is, as children are developing they are being programmed and prepped for the rest of their lives.…
