Cuckoo’s Nest” and “Catch-22” Young adults still have a life to live and enjoy while they are still young. So, when I read these two books which were released in the early 60’s, (Catch 22 in 1961 and One flew over cuckoo’s nest in 1962) the protagonists from these novels show us that freedom is important for our lives. However, after Cheswick’s death, McMurphy recognises that Nurse Ratched’s control is getting to peoples nerves and making them become like dead bodies with an empty soul in it!. At that point he steps up his rebel, he gets punished with electroshock therapy only serves to strengthen his will and keep his attitude from Nurse Ratched’s operation. His power in the face of electroshock therapy makes him an even more greater symbol to the men on the ward.
