Ninety percent of feed grain production is due to dramatically changed corn (techrepublic). Corn is also produced as the main ingredient in some foods we use everyday such as sweeteners and corn oil (techrepublic). Crop yield monitors invented in 1990 through technology has caused the production of corn to dramatically increase in the last twenty-five years (techrepublic).
However, tomatoes were the first genetically altered food to become commercially available (techrepublic). The Flavr Savr was created to slow rotting through the process of ripening (techrepublic). But these Flavr Savr were removed from the shelves in 1997 because they were not economical even though the process was successful(techrepublic). Like tomatoes the salmon industry through technology has not been as successful either. Genetically - engineered salmon has not been approved through FDA because they use a growth hormone additive to make it bigger (techrepublic). Popular supermarkets such as Kroger, Trader Joe's, and Target refuse to supply it (techrepublic). I have interviewed Jacqueline Wood who was an online teacher for 3 years for the University of Phoenix. She taught education courses from 2000 to 2003 to college level students studying to be teachers. There were always 8 to 12 students in each course and many of the students were members of our armed forces. Mrs. Wood wrote the lectures, created questions and projects, and generated the tests completely through the internet. The classroom was virtually open 24/7 and the teacher as well as students entered and discussed the questions when it worked with their work
