Flannery O Connor's Stereotypes

Stereotypes are thought or ideas of a particular type of person. These stereotypes are not always true, but sometimes people do have characteristics that can fall into these stereotypes. Connor, Roland, and Lev have common stereotypes, but they don’t always follow them. Connor’s stereotype is that he is a bad kid and can’t do anything good. Because he is a bigger kid and doesn’t get along well with others, he does follow this stereotype. He also fits this stereotype by having a short temper and getting into fights a lot. The stereotype does not fit him perfectly because he is nice and will help people. In the book, when Connor sees that Lev is going to the harvesting camp, he tries to save him by dragging him out of the car and bringing him …show more content…
He is a bully and does bet up kids, but not for fun. He is actually smart because instead of betting kids up of fun, he bets them up to get himself into the higher ranks. Connor was his greatest enemy so he tried to get Connor to fight him so he could kill him. Roland knew how to set Conner off and get him to fight. Also he was able to convince a lot of the kids at the graveyard to team up with him and go against the Admiral.
Lev’s stereotype is that he is a perfect kid. This stereotype did fit Lev greatly in the beginning of the book, but he changed. In the beginning he was the tithe whose purpose in life was to be unwound and he believed this was true. He changed by the ending of the book though. When Connor kidnapped him he found out that maybe being unwound was not his purpose. Later in the book you find out that Lev becomes a clapper and is going to kill people. This shows that he is not the perfect kid he used to be.
All of these characters have stereotypes that the do not necessarily fit in. Connor has the stereotype of a bad kid. Roland has the stereotype of a dumb bully. Also, Lev has the stereotype of being a perfect kid. They all do have characteristic that do fall under these categories, but not all of their
