Flannery O’Connors “A Good Man Is Hard To Find” is a story that discusses a grandmother and her family going on a vacation that ultimately ends and their deaths. There deaths were led by the grandmothers’ tendency to not know when to stop talking and from not being able to go with the intentional plans. In a way the story should be titled A Good Woman Is Hard To Find, because the irony of who was really good and who was really bad left the ending with a plot twist. If the grandmother had been a better good woman then the deaths of her and her family probably would have never happened. A long the way she talked consistently about everything and nothing. When the family stopped for food at Red Sammy’s she talked to Red Sam, the owner of Red Sammy’s. They discussed about how things used to be, how times have changed, the Misfit’s escape from prison, and how a good man is hard to find (426). They never elaborated on what characterized a good or a bad man. If she hadn’t have talked bailey into going to a house that didn’t even exist in Georgia nor lied about how extravagant it was then they would have never met the Misfit. If she had of stayed quiet when she recognized the Misfit then maybe he and his men wouldn’t have shot them all. In a way a good woman and a good man, knows when it’s time to talk and when it’s time to stay silent, they also know that lie gets them into nothing but trouble.
