An essay or project in which I am allowed to argue a particular perspective and required to support my viewpoint with evidence makes me tick intellectually. I am excited by these persuasive papers and debates, because my mind thinks logically. My strengths lie in math and science, topics in which logic is necessary and mandatory. Therefore, I admit that I struggle in English and history classes. However, the opportunity to use logical thinking and reasoning allows the greyness of these classes to become a little more black and white.…

His definition, in my opinion, is somewhat obvious but nonetheless does an adequate job of defining argument. First, he believes arguments are not statements but in people meaning people find arguments in the vicinity of people. Second, he believes argument is not a thing to be looked at but a concept people use, and a perspective they take.…

This section talks about the effectiveness of rhetoric on persuading the audience or adversary to agree with the speaker’s points. It is, as Heinrichs states, an “art of influence, friendship, and eloquence, of ready wit and irrefutable logic.”…

when writing an argumentative essay, first the writer needs to gather all the information needed to start the essay. The writer needs a topic to begin with like for instance, why breastfeeding your newborn baby is more substantial than bottle feeding. With a topic as this, this would make a great argument because so many nursing moms and new moms would have a different opinion for each one. Let’s just say that this is the topic for the essay, the writer would need to have a reasoning to back up their argument. From the website webmd.com, the advantages of breastfeeding are: (1) the cost of powdered milk is much more expensive than breast milk, so therefore breast milk is free, (2) the infant will get more nutrients from their mother versus out of a can, (3) it may also contain some fatty acids that promote brain development, (4) it can also save the nursing mom time from having to get up in the middle of the night to prepare a bottle for the baby, and last but not least (5) the new mom could lose weight with breastfeeding, and so much more.…

I was always told that an essay is developed around a thesis statement and resources that support my opinions about a prompt. I realized that there was more to an essay when I came across scholarly writing, which is writing on a higher level, usually one which we come across during college. It meets high standards of communication with outlines, tone, deductive reasoning, format, and way of analytical approach. It has a consistent way of delivering thoughts, shaping arguments, and narrowing down the subject to explain the main idea. With scholarly writing, students must express their thoughts through thesis statements, and develop an argument with their own thinking, not minding to be objective to clear any chance of bias.…
