Seven Years Of Foster Care In My Home

Seven years. Seven years of new chaos in my house. Seven years of sharing my parents with more than one sibling. Seven years of strange little faces coming into my home. Seven years creating friendships. Seven years of foster care in my home. Foster care in my life started when I was in middle school and my family still is involved with it to this day. The main reason we started doing this, was to someday adopt a little boy into our family since it was three girls, my mom, sister and I to one guy, my dad. We also wanted to give these kids who had so much taken from them, something, to bring hope and love back into their lives when they thought all things were lost. But, after all this time of kids venturing into our lives I have understood why there are kids who act like they do; they don’t have parents who essentially care for them, they have no boundaries at their house as to what they can and cannot due, they probably don’t have a nice place where they live making it a nonstable environment, and they also don’t have support from their parents in school or extra curriculum activities. When I began to realize all of this, I began to think of how I take all those things listed for granted. Times when I was not allowed to participate in some activity I would get angry and wonder why are you treating me this way. When my mom and dad are embarrassing me doing who knows what I think why do you want to ruin my life, just stop. Now I understand that my parents were protecting me, making sure I know how I should act in life, to make smart decisions on my own, and showing me just how much the cared for me and wanted the best for me. I now never take my life for granted, my loved ones for granted, opportunities life has given me for granted, but I am thankful every day for the life I was
