Five Years of Benefits When people think of a person who took a fifth year in high school they think of failure, miss credits and many similar problems, but actually no one really looks at the beneficial side of a fifth year. It can allow a student to become more aware of programs, life paths and career choices which is extremely important. Therefore, the high school program should extend to five years instead of four because it allows students to obtain more education and gain more life skills. People say that grade twelve is enough education for students, but actually in an extra year of school many things can be taught and learned. Firstly, an extra year of high school opens up more learning opportunities for students. For example, a student who takes high school for four years will not learn as much in their field of choice because grade twelve provides students with information, but not as much as a fifth year student due to time restrictions. Students who take fifth year will have more knowledge in their field of choice due to more time to learn different materials. Hence, it is not good if a student does not learn enough for a certain postsecondary program or else it will be difficult for the student. Firstly, students learn better time management for their future. For example, a student who has a fifth year has more time in high school and it allows the student to learn to balance school, extra circulars and outside work due to more time to develop the skill. Therefore, fifth year students understand how important it is to balance out time in life, when the students learn it and experience it more.
