Five Types Of Sin In The Help

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6: 23). Sin is present throughout life, and in the movie “The Help” there are many examples of this. When Hilly and her friends hide from Celia, they are committing a sin of commission. They do not let Celia into the house and exclude her from many parties because they believe she is “white trash”. Celia came with a pie and good intentions, but they were nothing but rude to her and ignored her. They deliberately shunned her. Sins of omission are a failure

The Catholic Church has delineated various pious and sinful actions that humans are capable of; it would logically follow that in Hell, these sins would be punished in respectfully distinct manners. However, how would one qualify which sin is the most egregious, and how would one decide which punishment would fit the crime? In The Inferno, Dante seeks to answer these questions in a grand categorization of religious sins, beginning with those of lack of baptism and ending with those of treachery.…

According to 1 Corinthians, sin is causing another believer to sin. It explains in more depth that sin is not glorifying God through one’s actions, something that causes one’s neighbor to stumble, or something that hinders the Gospel from being spread. All of one’s actions should glorify God. When a believer’s actions do glorify God, it gives others an example to follow…

Jonathan Edwards’ tone when preaching the “The Sinners In the Hand of an Angry God” was serious and sharp. Edwards’ description of hell would surely make anyone frightened and disturbed. I know that Edwards’ purpose for describing Hell as a gaping mouth waiting to consume them in flame will engage the audience’s emotions to convince the listeners of the how serious their sin are. Not only that, Edwards kept repeating the word wrath throughout the sermon. Edwards sees men as a race which hangs from the threads of God’s will facing directly the fire of Hell and if you were judged by god then that judgement will be more fearful and painful then they can comprehend.…

If someone has done multiple major sins, where would they be positioned in the inferno according to Dante? Dante’s greatest work, The Inferno, tells the story of many individuals who have sinned, and it categorizes them into different levels depending on what they did. Using his guidelines, many stories of people could be placed into the inferno. Sometimes it is quite easy to see where someone would be placed, for instance, if they committed a murder, they would be drowning in a river of blood. If someone was gluttonous, they would be tortured with uncomfortable sensory elements.…

The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne depicts Puritan society's view of sin as unforgivable and in need of punishment. Although the Puritans' attitude toward sin is to take disciplinary actions, the punishments are often unfair and cruel which makes it a bad society. For the first example, the punishment for adultery is typically death with few exceptions. Hester Prynne had committed the sin of adultery, but because her husband was presumed dead she was spared and forced to wear a letter "A" on her chest.…

Monica, I thoroughly enjoyed reading your post. I didn't really consider the word "sinful" being used in a different form, but you are right about it being used in a different form than in previous times. I have used the word "sinful" to describe other things, like food, but I never really thought about the true meaning when using it to describe something other than evil. The friend that I chose to speak with using the words that have a different meaning now, was very confused. I think that over time, our communication is influenced by others' opinions and beliefs, thus changing the meaning of words.…
