In the book the Five Temptations of a CEO by Patrick Lencioni, there are many critical points that are made about what temptations you will face when you become a CEO and the concept of reality. Assuming the responsibility of a CEO of a corporation or small business is incredibly difficult and extremely stressful. Furthermore because of this you will be put under many temptations. Some of the temptations that Lencioni discusses are Results vs. Status, Accountability vs. Popularity, Clarity vs. Certainty, Conflict vs. Harmony and Trust vs. Invulnerability. It is very easy to fall under the position of thinking what is always best for your paycheck or how can I move up in the company and not what is the best decision for the big picture or for the business. As a leader it is important to look out for your employees and think about how your decisions can affect there lives and family’s they are providing for. Furthermore, if all the decisions you make as a CEO are for the sole benefit of yourself then more than likely you will cause great damage to the business you are working for and negatively effect your employees to the point of possibly having to lay them off because of your selfish motives. I have personally seen this is my life by being a team captain on a successful Varsity football team. I was elected by my teammates due to my commitment and success over my previous three years playing. There were many decisions that I had to make in order to positively impact the team. One of these was kicking a teammate of the team due to an incident at a party on the weekend. I could have either voted to not kick him off which would make the football team look bad and show other players they can get away with the same act. Or kick him off showing the school the football team takes pride in being a good example around the school and show the underclassmen that we do not put up with what this player partook in. Furthermore, we did kick the player off the team in turn looking at the bigger picture of the team as a whole and not my own personal
