In this book Five Summers, by Una LaMarche, four best friends return to see each other at a camp reunion and find out what their unique bond really means to them. The four girls, Emma, Skyler, Maddie and Jo, face challenges, but in the end become the best of friends no matter who, or what, gets in their way. In the beginning of the book Emma is heading back to Camp Nedoba, for her first camp reunion since she had left three years ago. She is late getting to the camp, but gets there and sees her best friend from camp, Skyler. Emma and Skyler first met when they were ten, at their first year of camp. Once she sees her friends again, she is so happy most of her forgets about her secret, but it is still hers to tell. Once the girls get back together, they start off the reunion by having a wonderful time. That night they go swimming and Emma keeps hitting it off with Adam, but Skylar is so mad that the second they start getting close, she goes and gets in between them. Emma gets mad at Skylar and leaves, and Skylar hopes that she doesn’t mess up like that again. The next day the camp starts on a hiking trip up the island, Wexley Island, in the middle of the lake. While Maddie, Jo and Skylar stay on the beach to get ready for the hike Emma goes off with Adam to the top of the island. While the group is out hiking, Adam and Emma go down to the beach and stay there with each other until dusk. The big group they know left without them and they go back to the last day of camp, three years ago, and Adam gets the kiss from Emma that he never got before.
Adam promises to later meet up with Emma after they get back from the island, but never shows and Emma becomes mad at him. Then she meets back up with the other girls and they start talking about the next day and capture the
