Theme Statement In the book Monster by Walter Myers the theme is if you hang around bad people you should expect and accept the consequences. Halloween is like a horror movie, except with drunk teenagers instead of axe murders. It was about two years ago, when we were still living in Germany. It was a fairly peaceful Halloween night and the sun was about to set. My friends and I were walking around the village, what Germans call a town. After about half an hour of us walking around and talking, some acne filled, tall, muscular and older, German teenagers came up to us.…

Due to the fact that Halloween was around the corner, I decided it’d be a wise idea to dip my toes into the young-adult horror genre. And, although this may not have been the greatest, Nightfall wasn’t a completely disappointing start. Firstly, the initial premise caught my attention straight away, I found it hard to envisage a world in which the day/night cycle is more than 24 hours, a world where people had to abandon their homes, and move across an ocean just due to it being nighttime. I found myself sometimes thinking “Oh, just wait till morning, then go do what you need to do”, then realising that the characters have to wait 14 years for ‘the morning’, by which time the situation would be completely irrelevant.…

Human beings are emotional creatures. We can be happy, sad, scared, and angry all at the same time. Some can be described as overly emotional, dramatic, cold, and crazy, but just how accurate and exclusive or inclusive are these given stereotypes, more importantly crazy? “Why we crave horror films?” by Stephen King is about the underlying reasons human beings are so drawn to the production of horror films and rollercoasters, what they bring out in us, and why we keep going back for more. King argues that horror movies satisfy an important and essential human necessity of grim impulse and socially unacceptable desires in everyone.…

    1. In the film, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, the concepts of person perception, cultural and personal identities and persuasive qualities are demonstrated through Bruno and Shmuel’s friendship. We can see person perception through the two boys because at their age to each other the other is just another boy their age that they can play with in a place where they are all alone. They have none of the prejudices or assumptions about each other that those older than them would have casted on each other. Cultural and personal identity is seen through Bruno wanting to be just like his father when he is pretending to be one of the German fighter planes with his friend.…
