I was introduced to this event by a dental assistant from the dental office that I visit. On my very first appointment, she asked me if I was a good runner, liked to run, and could I run five miles I told her that I am not a big fan of running, but it depends on how far I am running. She proceeded to tell me about the five-mile race on that Sat-urday and she wanted me to be on her team for the race. So I am thinking that I work out regu-larly, so this race should be no problem to run, and another positive is that it is for a good cause.
I showed up to the race on that Saturday morning, I felt pretty good because of the fact, that I was getting out of the house, going to exercise, and giving back to the community by run-ning this five-mile race. As the crowd assembled in the parking lot there was a bit of chatter in the air from all of the different organizations that showed up for the event. Once everyone was accounted for we did some warm up movements, stretches, and exercises as a whole to get the blood flowing and muscles loose before the race.

As the runners got into their positions we were given the last bit of instructions and the signal was sounded and we were off to the races. I started off with a good pace, form, and focus I listened to music to keep to a rhythm so that I could have something to keep my mind on the race. As I approached the first mile checkpoint still feeling good the second mile checkpoint was no problem it wasn’t until I hit close to the three-mile checkpoint that I figured out that it was not going to be as easy as I thought it was going to

“It was a such pretty day that day, it was a really picture perfect sky, blue skies, the marathon feeling is that everybody is really upbeat and excited,” said Melinda Arredondo, when describing the 117th Boston Marathon on April 15th of 2013. Carlos and Melinda Arredondo stood at the finish line of the marathon with 400 small American flags to hand out to finished runners in honor of their two sons, Alex and Brian, who had passed away. Alex Arredondo was killed in a sniper attack in Iraq at 20 years old while serving for the United States in 2004 and just a few years later, Brian Arredondo, committed suicide from his struggle with grief. To Carlos and Melinda not only did these flags represented their national pride, but also the love and strength of their family, which they wanted to see spread all over the finish line of the Boston Marathon. But, just as Carlos stood fidgeting with his last flag, contemplating how to best honor his country and sons with this flag, he heard a thunderous boom, and the beaming spirits of Boston were instantaneously camouflaged with smoke.…
