For adolescents I would talk with them about how messages they receive from other people when they were younger influences their current action now and help them to recognize which of the five life scripts which is dictating their actions be perfect, be strong, try hard, please others, hurry up. The people I have supported up to this point have developed life scripts based on survival and self preservation. They now have come to realize they no longer need to be stuck in the life script and they are changing their lives for the better. With adolescents have them talk about a time where skills they have worked for them in their life script. They would do this after they have an awareness of their own personal skills.
