In the Five Knows excerpt written by Lussier (2000), five different, but related knows are discussed as aspects of successful management, information gathering, planning, and problem solving. Each of these aspects are things an individual should know in order to be a successful manager. Team 2 discussed each of the five knows and gave varying responses as to which one they felt was most important to them.
Brenda and Christina favored “knowing what you know when you know it.” Brenda said she favored this because it is one she encounters on a regular basis with the production workers in her organization. Christina also chose this "know" because it was relatable to her and her organization. Cherita chose “knowing what you do not know when you do not know it” because she felt she learned more when she involves herself in what she does not know. Brian and Brittany felt that “knowing who knows what you need to know” was most important to them. Brian stated that knowing where to get key information is valuable and can be underrated when making informed decisions. Brittany agreed by saying that if a person is unable to find the answer, they need to know who to reach out to get the information.

Multicultural Club A lot of us have a discourse community that we feel like we belong in. Before reading John Swales essay, I thought a discourse community is a group of people that have shared goals and purposes. But after reading John Swales essay he have made me realize that there is more to a discourse community than only having common goals and purposes but also has its own mechanism that is used mostly for communication and to provide valuable information or a feedback, using a genre(s) especially for a particular jargon, and "A discourse community has a threshold level of members with a suitable degree of relevant content and discourse expertise" (471-473). That means that discourse community has members in different levels like the experts and the beginners.…

In a review of studies that assessed the daily experiences of youth in different activities, Larson (2000) proposed that structured extracurricular activities such as sport provide a unique viable environment to reach youth and foster PYD. There is mounting empirical evidence to support Larson’s proposition (e.g., Eccles, Barber, Stone, & Hunt, 2003; Fredericks & Eccles, 2006, 2008), although it is unclear how the group setting promotes PYD. What is known is that group settings have powerful influences on their members and provide an effective vehicle for change (Cartwright,…
